Recycling has become a major issue in recent times as the use of landfill is reaching both a practical and political limit.

Most local councils are now operating a roadside collection system with varying degrees of recycling. The cooperation of the public is essential for the schemes to work successfully but it is also important that councils understand the realities of domestic waste collection and provide appropriate means of intermediate storage and separation.

Polymeric materials are often seen as one of the key contributors to this waste mountain but there are some practical methods which can be employed to  reprocess such materials for secondary use.

Wood substitution in aggressive environments is one area where shredded or re granulated waste of different polymer types may be extruded or injection moulded into useful products.

Tyres can now be recycled into road making material and there are trials underway at present.

Some local councils in the UK have been actively discussing the possibility of using this waste material and there are specialist companies which can put together a complete processing system, customised to suit the particular materials and quantities involved.
